'East road at dusk' - painting-from-the-imagination 2 hour practical. Aswell as trying to bring more character to trees and hedgerows, skies and cloud formations are something I've tried to get more variation with in my painting practicals. The ten songs (written for guitar and voice) I've been working on since 2009. Some have gone through up to 15 or 20 variations but are as a result, I hope, less quirky or grating, with better pacing and more structured dynamics. Having dusted myself off after another critical shit-kicking (100% declines for the Gold demo on Submithub) I've whittled the negative feedback down to a few improvements I need to make with my song structures namely more harmonic variation and interest in the final verse/chorus and maybe a middle eight or two. Critical feedback is always a tough pill to swallow, far more so with music than design I find, but similarly its still part of a process and necessary to improve the material.

A wide shot of the location for the Gold music video. The half fallen corkscrew Hazel branch made for a nice framing device. I customized the old gas lamp to fit an Aputure MC LED to use as the key light which I could then dial in flicker effects with using the Aputure app. The fire pit acted as a fill light. It had three MC LEDs, set on a low fire preset, and a few incense sticks for a smoke effect.

Another hyena fx composite shot, with a focus shift, for the forthcoming Gold music video. Unfortunately the original stock footage had a lot of camera shake which needed to be manually adjusted. The eyelights were put in to mimic the key/gas lamp reflection.

A MCU test shot for the Gold music video from back in Nov. Flat lighting and lazy framing were some of the biggest mistakes I made on the last few videos so I did a whole lot more experimenting this time round and tried to make use of more established (thou new to me) cinematography techniques.
