I started by looking thru a bunch of old Parisian style posters mainly for text layout and colours. In the end I went with the red, patient black and little bit of green to go along with the whole christmas vibe. I had to do a good bit of editing with the image itself as when rendered to a block style print in Photoshop alot of the shadow/textures were still showing up which I needed to remove to reinforce the spotlight effect.
