Ordered a MIDI drum pad yesterday in order for Dermot to be able to occasionally play some melodic lines while on the drum kit. I was going to pick up a xylophone or glockenspiel on ebay but ended up deciding we’d try use some of the percussion presets on the Miniak as sound sources. The benefit to using the synth is not only the variety and amount of sounds possible but the fact that they are all being created live so as opposed to a static sample triggered by hitting the drum pad, which will always sound the same, a synth patch can sound different depending on how hard the pad is hit, just like a real instrument. I also like the idea of using more unusual electronic sounds to help shake off our folk/rockabilly look which may be compounded even more if Liam joins us on the double bass. Speaking of which I still have to make a CD up for him of rough recordings of the tracks. The aim is to have a jam with the three of us next weekend. It’ll be a busy week after that as we have two gigs the following weekend. Played a solo set on Friday in Carrols. I had intended to try out the new version of Black Crow but it wasn’t finished yet so I ended up playing a bastardised version made up of three or four revisions, very strange indeed. All going well I’ll have the newer version finished by the 13th of August.
Picked up one of these last week too. Its gonna really help out when doing macro photography for websites and design related work. Just improved lighting to sort out now. Commission wise am still working on the Mindful Communication site and about to begin on a site for RSAG. There’s also a poster design for a Donal Dineen gig and Venue logo in the works. Got two tickets to go see Lord of Rings score performed by the RTE orchestra in November from few my friends for the bday, cant hardly dern wait!ed by the RTE orchestra in November from few my friends for the bday, cant hardly dern wait!
